Update on French Cottage in Atlanta

As is typical, I got sidetracked on this project as we had another deadline pop up. However, I was able to get back onto it this week and work on the rear terrace and fountain detail. I drew a schematic perspective for the client yesterday.

Rear Terrace Perspective (Ink on Trace Paper)

This image hasn't been labeled yet but you will notice the absence of an infinity fountain.Long story short, after much debate we came to the conclusion that an infinity edge fountain would be too expensive and ultimately a maintenance hassle for the client. So we came up with a grotto with a stone water feature set in it amongst black Mexican pebbles. The grotto would have a dark grey slate in it and the walls would be made of granite.

Possibly the most difficult aspect of this is how the foundation of the large wall is going to interact with the fountain basin. Basically, it boils down to the location of expansion joints to keep my concrete subgrades from cracking.

The grotto is tall, 6 ft to be exact. It is centered on the glass kitchen door and rightfully so as it will be the dominant feature in this intown garden. I am curious to see what the client thinks.

You will also notice the circular staircase, the railing is wrought iron and the steps are a bluestone.  Furthermore, there is grill area in the far right corner that is a 36" stainless steel grill with a bluestone countertop.
