I'm currently working on two projects right now. I'm helping wrap up some work another landscape architect had started, and I'm also working on a woodland garden design.  On the project that I'm helping wrap up, I've been developing a concept for the fireplace in the client's outdoor living area.  

Outdoor fireplaces have become a major fixture for residential design. The one I'm working on is unique because it is using a tumbled Indiana limestone, which is an ornate material, as well as bluestone as the hearth and double caps. The fireplace went through a couple of iterations before the design was settled. Just in case you don’t know, iterations are different designs of the same overall concept. Designs usually go through several iterations as we explore what the possibilities could be. People like to knock designers because they can go through too many iterations and still not make a decision, but this process is very important to creating a bespoke (tailored/custom) design.  

The woodland garden (the other project that I've been working on recently) is exactly what you'd imagine it to be, especially if you've spent time walking trails. The design currently features several Renaissance Sipraea, Florida Lecuothue, Azaleas (G.G.Gerbing in the sunnier areas), Oakleaf Hydrangeas, and a myriad of autumn ferns. I'd share the working drawing with you, but it is mostly comprised of scribble circles, so it's not the clearest drawing in the world. Also, since it’s a working drawing, the other designers will still get a chance to weigh in, and ultimately the drawing will change.

You'll notice that all of these plants will have white flowers. This is very much in style now having the structure of the garden be white flowering plants and maybe having some pockets of color.
